A Day Downtown Before Halloween

We had some family in town this past weekend and did some great site seeing in our new city. San Antonio is by far one of the most haunted cities in the entire state of Texas, according to Melissa Martinez on About.com (Read Story). We first hit The Mercado (Market Square) and I can’t explain how great the Mexican food smells there. Photos below are of the Market Square outside and inside, one photo is of a table for Dia De Los Muertos.

Walking over the River Walk Mall we stopped by a museum that was once The Spanish Governor’s Palace. The palace has 10 rooms a garden in the back with a water fountain and a well.

Today, the Spanish Governor’s Palace is the only example of an 18th-century Spanish aristocratic home remaining in Texas.

Story has it that a woman was raped, murdered and thrown in a nearby well. When renovating the building they did in fact find remains of a woman. Criminals were hung on the knotted tree below and that if you look close to the tree next to it you can see a face. Workers have discovered the painting over the fireplace across the room on the floor.
